Which Teams Dominated the Homeboyz X CZY Grand Finals? Find Out

The Homeboyz Entertainment X CZY Grand Finals crowned a new champion on Sunday, but the tournament was about much more than Mcoasty lifting the Ksh. 35,000 winner’s cheque. It was also a battle between East Africa’s biggest FC 26 teams, with 64 of the region’s best players fighting for a share of a Ksh. 105,000 prize pool.

Hosted by Homeboyz Entertainment and CZY Esports, the tournament attracted qualifiers from an initial field of 231 players. Unlike most local competitions where Classic XI teams dominate, this event was played using national teams.

Phoenix Esports: The Deepest Squad at the Tournament

No team had more players making serious runs at the Homeboyz X CZY Grand Finals than Phoenix Esports.

The squad was represented by Shaq, Prince Nabanji, Samuel Kahiga (Sam Jr), Marlone77, Erick Ado and Haruun Haruun, and almost every one of them made an impact.

Shaq produced another brilliant tournament run, reaching the Grand Final before eventually losing 9-3 to Mcoasty. Nabanji finished fourth while Sam Jr secured fifth place after another impressive campaign.

Marlone also enjoyed a memorable tournament. After progressing through the early rounds, he reached the quarter-finals before losing 5-1 to eventual champion Mcoasty. Thanks to the placement matches, he officially finished seventh.

Haruun announced himself in style by destroying Daniel Mwawaza 12-1 in the opening round before falling to teammate Sam Jr in the second round. Erick Ado’s tournament ended early after a tough first-round draw against Trex.

If there was one team that showed incredible squad depth, it was Phoenix.

Santiago eHub: One Champion Was Enough

Santiago eHub arrived at the CZY Grand Finals with four players – Mcoasty, Brayovin, Dav8 and Leonescott Maranga (Leo).

While the supporting cast exited at different stages, captain Mcoasty delivered one of the best tournament runs of the season.

His road to the title included victories over:

• David Mwengi (4-3)
• Victor Kimaiyo (5-1)
• Ryan Mindo (after a 5-5 draw, won on penalties)
• Marlone (5-1)
• Lil Pip (6-5)
• Shaq (9-3)

After lifting the trophy, Mcoasty remained humble, saying Shaq was the better player but that taking his chances made the difference.

Dav8 won his opening match 8-0 before losing 4-2 to Lord7, while Leo defeated Jamal 7-2 before narrowly falling 3-2 to Ryan Mindo. Brayovin reached the Round of 16 before losing 4-2 to Marlone.

TR Esports Continue Their Remarkable Consistency

TR Esports once again proved why they remain among East Africa’s strongest FC 26 teams.

Lil Pip recorded another outstanding run, defeating Ayub, crushing Kenneth Waititu 7-3, edging Jojo Depay 3-2 and thrashing teammate Trex 5-0 before narrowly losing 6-5 to eventual champion Mcoasty in the semi-finals. He finished third.

Prorate looked unstoppable during the early rounds, defeating Yor before crushing Mackdonald 10-2 and beating Fox In The Box 7-3. His impressive run ended in the quarter-finals after a heavy defeat to Shaq.

Trex also impressed with victories over Erick Ado (2-1), Ignicious Seveni (2-1) and Ronnie Jr (6-5), while Ryan Mindo reached the Top 16 before losing to Mcoasty. He later defeated Santiago players Leo and Brayovin in the placement matches to finish 12th.

SC Esports: Ibrah Continues to Impress

Fresh from winning the KTRL x MKU tournament, Omollo Churchill (Ibrah) carried his fine form into the CZY Grand Finals. He won his opening two matches before eventually losing to Sam Jr in the Round of 16, earning an official ninth-place finish.

Scad, competing under the name Mackdonald, was knocked out by Prorate in the second round, while James Wanjiku (Kile) also exited in Round Two after losing 3-0 to Shaq. David Mwengi, alias Davey Maestro, was knocked out in the opening round by Mcoasty who beat him 4-3.

Horizon Esports

Horizon Esports relied on one man – Fox In The Box.

Fox comfortably beat Peabo 6-1 before edging Mike 1-0 to reach the next stage. His impressive run eventually came to an end after losing 7-3 to Prorate.

Z Esports Still Finding Their Feet

The rebuilding Z Esports squad had two representatives.

Veteran Atak progressed to the second round before losing 6-1 to Jojo Depay.

New signing Viper’s first major appearance ended in the opening round after a 6-1 defeat to Fox In The Box. Although the results weren’t what Z hoped for, the tournament provided valuable experience for one of East Africa’s youngest squads.

Best Performing Free Agents

The free agents also made plenty of noise throughout the tournament.

Jojo Depay

Jojo Depay produced arguably the best run among all free agents at the CZY Grand Finals. He reached the Top 10 before eventually falling to champion Mcoasty.

Lord7

Moses Ndarwa, better known as Lord7, continued his consistent form by finishing 11th after another strong tournament.

Harry Kappa

One early exit doesn’t erase greatness.

Harry Kappa suffered a narrow 6-4 defeat to Marlone in the opening round, but the multiple-time champion remains one of East Africa’s most respected FC 26 players and a constant threat whenever he enters a tournament.

Why It Matters

The CZY Grand Finals showed just how competitive Kenya’s FC 26 scene has become. While Mcoasty walked away with the biggest prize, the tournament also highlighted which teams have the strongest depth and which players are building momentum as the season enters one of its biggest periods.
