Hermes ENC Qualification is now official, and Tanzania has another reason to celebrate after the FC 26 star went through the Southern Africa Special Qualifier without losing a single match.
With only one slot available, there was absolutely no room for mistakes. Hermes did not just survive the qualifier. He dominated it.
The Tanzanian star won all five of his fixtures on the winners bracket on his way to the ticket, scoring heavily in the later rounds and eventually defeating his opponent HashiraGift (from Malawi) on the grand final to secure his place at the Esports Nations Cup in Saudi Arabia.
“I’m very proud of my performance over the last two years. I’ve had some important moments, from reaching the Top 64 in the FC Pro January Cup before being disqualified because Tanzania was not eligible, to finishing second runner-up in the Betika competition and winning the Hisense tournament in 2025,” Hermes told East Gamers News.
“Now qualifying for the Esports Nations Cup is another huge achievement for me. I’m going to Saudi Arabia determined to make Tanzania and East Africa proud. I’m grateful to everyone who has believed in me, supported me and continued to push me throughout this journey. This qualification is for all of them.” He added.

For East African FC fans, this is massive. Hermes now joins Kenya’s Shaq as another player from the region who will represent East Africa on one of the biggest esports stages in the world. And considering the level of competition Hermes had to go through, this was no easy qualification.
Hermes ENC Qualification: The Run to Saudi Arabia
The Hermes ENC Qualification run came through a Southern Africa Special Qualifier played over two legs, with home-and-away matches and both an upper and lower bracket.
Hermes’ opening match was a walkover because he had no opponent, meaning he advanced without playing. Once the actual matches began, however, the Tanzanian had to earn every step of his journey.

And the first Grand Final tie went against him. HashiraGift came out on top 11-6 on aggregate, forcing a bracket reset. Suddenly, Hermes was one defeat away from losing the ticket he had worked through the entire winners bracket to reach. There was no more safety net.

The Grand Final was arguably the toughest test Hermes faced all tournament. HashiraGift had already survived the pressure of the losers bracket and then showed exactly why he belonged in the final by winning the first tie 11-6. Hermes had to reset himself mentally. One more tie. One more chance. And this time, he delivered.
The 14-10 aggregate victory completed Hermes’ qualification and turned what had already been an impressive run into something much more dramatic. He had stayed alive in the winners bracket throughout the main tournament, watched HashiraGift fight his way back through the losers bracket, lost the first Grand Final tie and then recovered when everything was on the line.

No Way Back Needed
The upper and lower-bracket format meant competitors had a safety net if they suffered a defeat. A player could drop into the lower bracket and attempt to fight all the way back. Hermes never had to take that route.
His first progression came via a walkover, but once he entered the action, he remained unbeaten. Cold12342, Demore1, LeoModise and his final opponent all fell as Hermes moved from one stage to the next.
The scorelines tell their own story. The 7-1 win over Cold12342 showed Hermes was in control. The 8-5 victory against Demore1 proved he could survive a more competitive battle. Then he edged LeoModise 10-8 in the semifinal before producing another ten-goal performance in the final of the winners bracket and eventually in the Grand Final. He didn’t just qualify. That is what makes the Hermes ENC Qualification story so impressive.

Hermes Had East African Eyes on Him
Hermes is not an unknown name to East African FC players. Tanzanian FC has been part of the wider East African competitive scene, and Hermes has regularly crossed paths with players from Kenya and other countries in the region. He has also featured in international money matches against some of the names familiar to East African gamers such as Harry Kappa, Ado and Shaq.

The biggest thing about the Southern Africa Special Qualifier was the limited opportunity. There was only one slot available. That meant Hermes was not competing simply for a good finish. He was competing for the ticket. And there were no shortcuts. The format forced every player to perform. Hermes did exactly that.
