After days of heated debates, confusion, and nonstop discussions across Kenya’s FC gaming community, Marlone to France is now officially reality as the Phoenix Esports player jetted out of the country on Thursday, May 14.
And honestly, regardless of the controversy that surrounded the slot, this is still a huge moment for Kenyan esports.

Before his departure on Thursday night, Marlone was escorted to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Phoenix Esports manager Didz Jr, teammates Ado and Telki, and close friends. He flew out of the country at 2340 hours.

For a player who fought his way through one of Kenya’s toughest FC tournaments earlier this year, the moment clearly meant a lot.
The Phoenix Esports player is expected to spend four days in France before returning to Kenya.
Marlone’s Strong eLigue 1 Journey
While much of the conversation recently focused on the France trip controversy, many people have forgotten one thing: Marlone actually had a serious tournament run.
The Phoenix Esports player battled through top competition during the eLigue 1 tournament back in March, defeating respected names like Moses Ndarwa, alias Lord7 and Joash Agutu, alias Jojo Depay.
He made it to the grand final where he faced Z Esports wonderkid Mulinge Jeremiah Gerald, popularly known as Shaq.
Marlone lost the final with a 6-0 scoreline but still, reaching that final alone proved he belongs among the country’s top competitors.

How the France Situation Changed
Originally, Shaq was expected to travel to France after winning the tournament.
However, communication breakdowns between Shaq’s management and the Electronic Sports Kenya Federation (ESKF), together with issues surrounding document processing timelines, reportedly played a major role in the situation changing.
With the travel window approaching fast, Marlone eventually received the opportunity instead.

But now that the trip is officially underway, attention has slowly shifted toward supporting the Kenyan representative abroad.
