The Ultimate Controller League edition 2 tournament was held at Leijona Lifestyle Center in Umoja, bringing together some of the strongest FC 26 players in Kenya. This was not a small local field. Harry Kappa was there. Jojo Depay was there. Ado was there. Sam Jr was there. Trex was there. Prorate was there. Lord7 was there. Collo Gamer was there. Dav8 was there.
And plenty of other competitive players were also looking for a share of the Ksh 30,000 prize pool. The competition was played using 95-rated teams, with Champions League teams only. That made the tournament a serious test of the players’ ability to perform under pressure. The rewards were also bigger than the first edition.

Dav8 Was Doing It Again
There was something familiar about Dav8’s run. Just a day earlier, he had reached the grand final of the Kenya Gaming Festival after making it all the way through the winners bracket. He had eventually lost to Shaq after the Phoenix player fought back from the losers bracket and reset the final.
Now, less than 24 hours later, Dav8 was deep in another tournament. And once again, he was making noise. His run began with a 6-3 victory over Tank. Then he took down Fuego 5-1. Next came 03, who he beat 7-4. Then Prorate. Dav8 won that one 2-1, sending Prorate down to the losers bracket. That meant Dav8 had reached the winners-bracket final without losing. And waiting there was Shaq.
Shaq Beats Dav8 to Reach the Grand Final
This time, the two players were meeting before the grand final. There was no room for the kind of comeback that had made their previous encounter so dramatic. Shaq had to get the job done now. And he did. Shaq 5-3 Dav8.
The win sent Shaq into the grand final as the undefeated player from the winners bracket. Dav8 was dropped into the losers bracket. But Prorate was still alive. And he was about to go on a ridiculous run.
Prorate Refuses to Stay Down
Getting knocked into the losers bracket by Dav8 could have ended the tournament for Prorate. Instead, it seemed to wake him up. He locked in. First came Sam Jr. Prorate won 5-3. Then came Caesar, better known as Collo Gamer. Prorate shut him out. 2-0. But the biggest test was still waiting. Dav8. The same player who had beaten Prorate 2-1 earlier and sent him into the losers bracket.

This time, Prorate didn’t just get revenge. He destroyed him. Prorate 8-2 Dav8. Just like that, the player who had been one game away from the grand final was eliminated. Prorate had completed his run through the losers bracket and earned another shot at Shaq. And that’s when the final became crazy.
The Final That Needed Two Matches
Because Prorate had come through the losers bracket, he needed to beat Shaq twice. Shaq had reached the final undefeated. That gave him the advantage. Prorate needed to win the first match to reset the bracket.
If Shaq won that opening final match, the tournament would be over. But Prorate had other plans. The first final was incredibly tight. And even after losing the first final match 5-4 to a 118th-minute goal, he came back and won the deciding match 5-3. That’s six straight tournament days? No, two tournament victories in two days. And that distinction matters. He is not just farming one competition. He is showing up in different tournaments against different fields and finding ways to win.

Why It Matters
There is a reason Shaq’s recent run is getting harder to ignore. Kenya has a deep pool of FC 26 talent, and this tournament showed exactly that. A player can beat Harry Kappa one day and still have to deal with Collo Gamer, Dav8, Prorate or Ado in the next tournament. There is no easy route. Yet Shaq is repeatedly finding himself at the business end of these competitions.
The most impressive part might actually be the way he handles setbacks. At Kenya Gaming Festival, he went through the losers bracket. At the Ultimate Controller League, he lost the first grand-final match after a late goal. Different problems. Same response. He keeps coming back. At just 18 years old, that is a scary thought for the rest of the scene.
Kamau Wants UCL to Get Even Bigger
The story does not end with Ultimate Controller League edition 2. Tournament organizer Kamau has already promised a third edition in October, by which time FC 27 will have launched. And he wants the next edition to be bigger.
The plan includes a larger prize pool and taking the competition outside Nairobi. Kisumu and Nakuru are already part of those plans. That could give the Ultimate Controller League an entirely different feel. Instead of players always travelling to Nairobi for tournaments, the tournament itself could start travelling to the players.
“We are already looking forward to the third edition in October, and by then FC 27 will have launched, so we expect things to be even bigger. We are also working on increasing the prize pool. The plan is to take the Ultimate Controller League beyond Nairobi and make it a city-to-city competition, with Kisumu and Nakuru already among the places we are looking at.” Kamau said.
For Kenya’s FC 26 community, that is exciting. More cities. More players. More competition. And potentially bigger prizes.
