Shaq and Prorate are finally heading to Nigeria. After a journey that took an unexpected turn before they could even leave Kenya, the two FC stars are now on their way to Lagos for the Rivalry Series.
And this time, there is no turning back. The opportunity is too big. The Rivalry Series brings together players from five African countries, with Kenya joining Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire in a competition designed to put some of the region’s best FC players against each other.

The original plan was for Kenya to send three players to Nigeria. Harry Kappa, Shaq and Prorate were all expected to make the journey together for the Rivalry Series.
The three were scheduled to leave Kenya early Tuesday morning (1 am), with the tournament organizers in Nigeria having already taken care of the main travel arrangements. That included their flights, accommodation, meals and even their return journey.
The players arrived at the airport as required. But things did not go according to plan. The trio unfortunately missed the check-in window for their scheduled flight, meaning the original travel arrangements could no longer be used as planned.

Suddenly, a trip that had been organised well in advance had become a race against time. The tournament was still waiting for them in Lagos. And missing the opportunity was not an option.
Alternative travel arrangements were secured, allowing Shaq and Prorate to continue with the journey. Harry Kappa, however, will not make the Nigeria leg. That leaves Shaq and Prorate as the two Kenyan players making the trip to Lagos, with both now on their way.

His run through the African Esports Nations Cup qualification process saw him finish 112th among the 128 players who advanced from the African ladder. The qualification itself became one of the biggest stories in Kenyan FC esports. It also showed the kind of challenges East African players can face when competing online against opponents from other parts of Africa.
Ping has been a problem. Power shortages have been a problem. During his ENC qualification run, Shaq even suffered electricity outages at crucial moments. Yet he still managed to qualify. That experience matters now.
Lagos will present a completely different challenge, but Shaq has already learned what it feels like to play with the pressure of representing Kenya. He also enters the trip as one of the players who has been producing results consistently in the Kenyan scene. The confidence will be there. The SportsBiz tournament will take place in Kigali, Rwanda, bringing together 32 players for a $10,000 EA SPORTS FC 26 competition. The tournament is scheduled for September 12 and 13 at BK Arena.

- Prorate
- Dav8
The change in travel plans means Kappa will now make his way from Kenya to Rwanda separately, while Shaq and Prorate will head to Kigali after their Nigeria campaign.

There is another reason this trip deserves attention. It is not only about Shaq and Prorate. It is about the wider East African FC scene. Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda have increasingly become part of a bigger African competitive gaming conversation.
