Players Shift Focus to National Teams Ahead of UP NEXT Grand Finals
One interesting feature of the tournament was the decision to use national teams instead of the popular Classic XI squads that have dominated many local FC 26 competitions this season.
The change wasn’t by accident.
With the UP NEXT FC 26 Tournament Grand Finals scheduled for Sunday, many of the players used the KTRL.AFRIKA x MKU tournament as part of their final preparations. The country’s biggest stars took the opportunity to sharpen their tactics using the same style of teams they’ll be relying on when they battle for glory in the highly anticipated finals.
Why It Matters
The KTRL.AFRIKA x MKU Esports Tournament was more than just another local competition. Held during Skill Up Africa 2026, the event showcased how competitive gaming continues to gain recognition in Kenya, giving players another platform to test themselves against the country’s best while competing for meaningful prize money.
For Ibrah, the victory is another major achievement in his growing FC 26 career and a huge boost for SC Esports. For everyone else, it was another reminder that Kenya’s competitive FC 26 scene keeps getting stronger with every tournament.
As more organisations, universities and partners invest in esports, events like this are creating bigger opportunities for players to compete, earn prize money and build their names on the national stage.
