And when the dust settled, Shaq had another major trophy to celebrate.

For Prorate and Kappa, the podium finishes also continue an impressive stretch of results.

How the Africa FC Showdown Came Together
The Africa FC Showdown was organized as part of the Africa Blockchain Festival 2026 at Sarit Expo Centre, in partnership with the Electronic Sports Kenya Federation and PASH Esports.
The tournament carried a $5,000 prize pool, approximately KSh 649,000, with eight players competing for the title.

Before the main event, questions had emerged within the Kenyan gaming community about how the eight-player field would be selected. The eventual qualification process included a double-elimination tournament at Phoenix Gaming Lounge, where 14 players fought for the four remaining places.
Shaq, Prorate, Hermes and Harry Kappa had already secured their places before that qualifier.
The result was an eight-player showdown featuring a mix of established Kenyan competitors, free agents and an international challenger from Tanzania.
By the end of Friday’s competition, the debate about who deserved a place had given way to another question.
Who could actually win it?
Shaq Starts Strong Against His Phoenix Teammates
Shaq began his campaign against Jesse, his teammate at Phoenix Esports.
The opening round used a two-leg format, meaning the players’ aggregate score determined who advanced. Shaq won 7-5 on aggregate, sending Jesse into the losers bracket.
His next opponent was another familiar face.
Collo Gamer, also known as Ceaser.
This time, Shaq was even more convincing, winning 11-4 on aggregate to secure his place in the Winners Bracket Final.
Standing between him and a direct route to the Grand Final was Prorate.
The former TR Esports player had arrived at the event fresh from winning Wednesday’s Homeboyz FC 27 Mini Tournament, where he beat Kappa 7-2 in the final. He was clearly in form and had already shown what he could do against one of Kenya’s strongest free agents.
But Shaq had answers.
He defeated Prorate 5-3 on aggregate in the Winners Bracket Final, becoming the first player to secure his place in the Grand Final.
For Shaq, the job was now simple: win one more match and lift the trophy. For Prorate, the route had suddenly become much harder.
Prorate Survives Hermes Before Taking on Kappa
Prorate’s run had begun against Hermes, the Tanzanian star who travelled to Kenya for the competition.
Their matchup carried plenty of history.
Hermes had enjoyed an impressive start to FC 27, including two money-match victories over Shaq before the Kenyan travelled to Morocco. Hermes had also beaten Jojo Depay in another cross-border contest, while Prorate had defeated Hermes in a money match before the Tanzanian’s trip to Kenya.
Their Africa FC Showdown meeting was therefore another chance to settle the score.
And it was far from easy.
The first two games left their aggregate scores level, forcing them into a third deciding game. Prorate eventually won that contest 5-4, narrowly surviving a dangerous opponent.
His next challenge was Harry Kappa.

Kappa had been building another impressive tournament run, and the experienced free agent had already shown that he could compete with the best despite not currently representing a team.
Prorate, however, was ruthless.
He defeated Kappa 13-8 on aggregate, sending him to the losers bracket and moving one step closer to Shaq.
Kappa Fights Back, But Prorate Refuses to Fall
Kappa’s tournament was not over.
After losing to Prorate, he faced Jesse in the losers bracket and won 4-3. He then beat Hermes 5-2, keeping his own title hopes alive and setting up another encounter with Prorate.
The rematch was particularly interesting because Prorate had already beaten Kappa 7-2 at the Homeboyz Mini Tournament on Wednesday.
Now he had another opportunity to stop him.
Prorate did not leave much room for doubt.
He produced a commanding 6-1 victory over Kappa to advance to the Losers Bracket Final and earn another shot at Shaq.
Kappa would finish third overall, capping another strong tournament run as a free agent. Prorate, meanwhile, had recovered from his Winners Bracket Final defeat and was back where he wanted to be.
One more match stood between him and the championship.
Shaq Wins Africa FC Showdown in the Grand Final

The Grand Final came with a crucial difference for the two players.
Because Shaq had reached the final through the winners bracket, Prorate needed to beat him in the first final game to force a bracket reset and create another deciding contest.
Shaq needed only to win that game to become champion.
The pressure was obvious.
Prorate had already survived Hermes, beaten Kappa and recovered from losing to Shaq earlier in the day. He had done everything necessary to give himself another chance.
But Shaq had the final answer.
The Phoenix Esports star defeated Prorate 2-1 in the Grand Final, ending the contest before a bracket reset could take place.
Just like that, the day ended with Shaq wins Africa FC Showdown.
Why Shaq’s Africa FC Showdown Win Matters
This was more than another tournament win for Shaq.
It was another statement from a player who continues to find success at different levels of competition.
He returned from an international FC Pro assignment, defeated his Phoenix teammate Jesse, brushed aside Collo Gamer and then beat Prorate twice to make the Shaq wins Africa FC Showdown headline.
