The Africa FC Showdown qualifiers are underway in Nairobi, with 14 players fighting for the final four places in an eight-player competition set to take place on Friday.
After questions from the gaming community about how players would be selected for the Africa FC Showdown, the qualification picture has now become clearer.
Four players have already secured direct qualification, while another 14 are competing for the remaining places in a double-elimination tournament at Phoenix Gaming Lounge in Nairobi CBD.

And this is no ordinary group of competitors.
The field includes established Kenyan FC names, former esports team players and free agents looking for another opportunity to make their mark.

With a $5,000 prize pool waiting at the main event, nobody wants to miss out.
Four Players Are Already Through
Before the remaining qualifiers began, four players had already secured their places in Friday’s Africa FC Showdown.
They are:
- Prorate
- Shaq
- Hermes, representing Tanzania
- Harry Kappa
That leaves four more places to be decided.
The four direct qualifiers also give the main event an interesting starting point. Prorate and Kappa have established themselves through major Kenyan competitions, while Shaq and Hermes have both earned international recognition, including qualification for the Esports Nations Cup earlier this year.

Africa FC Showdown Qualifiers: Four Spots, 14 Players and No Room for Mistakes
The remaining places are being contested by 14 players in a double-elimination format.
The group consists of the 12 players who were initially left to fight for qualification, with Demon and Jesse subsequently added to the field.
The players competing are:
- Ahmed26, a free agent after leaving TR Esports
- Tank, SC Esports
- Ibra, SC Esports
- Trex, Z Esports
- Jesse, Phoenix Esports
- Fox in the Box, Horizon Esports and representing South Sudan
- Lil Pip, Homeboyz Esports
- Moses Ndarwa, also known as Lord7, Homeboyz Esports
- Demon, a free agent
- Collo Gamer, Phoenix Esports
- Mcoasty, Santiago eHub
- Dav8, Santiago eHub
- Sam Jr, Phoenix Esports
- Jojo Depay, Horizon Esports
That is a strong field, with players from several established Kenyan teams competing alongside free agents looking for their next opportunity.
The double-elimination format also means one defeat does not automatically end a player’s campaign. However, the margin for error remains small when only four spots are available.

Every match matters. Every loss increases the pressure. And by the end of the qualifier, ten players will have missed out on Friday’s main event.
The live bracket is available on Challonge, where fans can follow the tournament draw and results as they are updated.
Marlone Takes Another Step Into Officiating
Another interesting name connected to the event is Marlone, who is serving as a referee for the qualifiers.
Marlone has been a familiar name in Kenya’s competitive FC scene for years, but his involvement in officiating is becoming increasingly visible.
At the recent SportsBiz Africa Esports Cup in Rwanda, he served as Head Referee, overseeing proceedings rather than competing as a player.
He has now taken on another officiating role at the Africa FC Showdown qualifiers.
That transition is worth watching. Competitive gaming needs skilled players, but it also needs people who understand the game well enough to officiate matches, enforce rules and help tournaments run smoothly.
Marlone’s growing involvement in that side of the scene shows that there are different ways for experienced competitors to remain involved in esports.
Friday’s Africa FC Showdown Carries $5,000
The qualifiers are taking place ahead of Friday’s Africa FC Showdown, which is part of the Africa Blockchain Festival activities in Nairobi.
The main event is scheduled for Friday, October 16, at Sarit Expo Centre, with a total prize pool of $5,000.
The competition is being presented in partnership with the Electronic Sports Kenya Federation and PASH Esports.
As already stated, the four players who emerge from today’s qualifier will join Prorate, Shaq, Hermes and Kappa to complete the eight-player lineup.
Why the Africa FC Showdown Qualifiers Matter
The qualifier is significant for more than the four available places.
The original questions from the community about player selection made clarity around the qualification process important. The current setup gives readers and players a clearer picture of how the remaining spots are being contested.
It also puts some of Kenya’s leading competitors in the same bracket, regardless of whether they are currently signed to teams.
For the players, the task is straightforward: win enough matches to secure one of the remaining places. For the community, the bracket provides a way to follow the race as it unfolds.
And for those who miss out, the results may still shape conversations around future tournaments, transfers and opportunities.
Four Places Remain
The Africa FC Showdown qualifiers are about to determine who gets the chance to compete for the $5,000 prize pool on Friday. Four places remain. Fourteen players are chasing them.
Now the bracket has to decide who gets through.
