The Homeboyz mini tournament turned into a serious showdown on Wednesday after 90 players turned up at Homeboyz Entertainment Studios on Muchai Drive for an FC 27 competition that had only been announced the previous day.
And when the dust settled, it was Prorate who walked away with the biggest prize.
The free agent defeated Harry Kappa 7-2 in the final, taking home KSh 12,000 after a dominant run through one of the strongest fields assembled in Nairobi this FC 27 season.

The tournament carried a KSh 30,000 prize pool, with five players receiving cash prizes.
For an event announced at such short notice, the turnout was impressive. Homeboyz still managed to bring together some of the biggest names in Kenyan FC, giving the new game another competitive test in Nairobi.

90 Players Turn Up for the Homeboyz Mini Tournament
The field featured some of Kenya’s most recognizable FC players.
Harry Kappa, Prorate, Lil Pip, Moses Ndarwa, better known as Lord7, Jojo Depay, Ibrah and Opto99 were among the names competing at Homeboyz Entertainment Studios.

It was the kind of lineup that made the tournament interesting from the start. There were established champions, experienced free agents and players looking to make their mark on FC 27.
The notable absentee was Shaq, who had travelled to Morocco for the EA SPORTS FC Pro 27 Regional Qualifiers.
The tournament used the All Stars game mode and ran from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with players fighting for their share of the KSh 30,000 prize pool.
There was also another competition taking place alongside the FC action.

The outstanding NBA 2K qualifiers from Homeboyz’s earlier multi-game event were held on the same day. Those qualifiers had not taken place during the previous event, meaning Wednesday’s gathering brought another part of the Homeboyz competitive programme to life.
Our main focus, however, was firmly on the football game, and Prorate gave everyone a performance to remember.
Prorate’s Route to Triumph

Prorate did not ease his way into the tournament. He started aggressively and kept delivering convincing results as the bracket progressed.
His run included:
- KP Splinter: 11-2
- Hakim 87: 8-2
- S17: 2-0
- Mr Nobody: 7-3
- Lil Pip: Won on penalties
- Sam Jr: 5-2
- Harry Kappa: 7-2 in the final
The penalty win against Lil Pip was one of the key moments in his campaign. After that close contest, Prorate raised his level again, beating Phoenix Esports’ Sam Jr 5-2 to reach the final.
Standing between him and the trophy was Harry Kappa.

Kappa had also been putting together an excellent tournament, and this was shaping up to be a proper test of Prorate’s title credentials.
But Prorate had saved one of his strongest performances for the biggest match of the day.
Harry Kappa Fights His Way to the Final

Kappa’s road to the final was not easy either.
The experienced free agent moved through the bracket with several strong performances, eliminating players who would have fancied their chances of winning the entire event.
His results included:
- Abdi Aziz: 5-1
- Hyza: 9-2
- Marlone: 3-1
- Prince: 5-4
- Lord7: 2-1
- Fab Pepe: 4-1 in the semifinal
Prorate Delivers a 7-2 Final Statement
The final ended 7-2 in Prorate’s favour, leaving little doubt about who had been the stronger player on the day.
Kappa had produced an impressive run to reach the final, but Prorate took control of the decisive match and never let the opportunity slip.
The result gave the free agent another major win at a time when Kenyan teams and players are still finding their feet on FC 27.
It was also a reminder that free agents remain dangerous in a scene where many competitors are joining, leaving or reshaping team rosters.
Prorate may not have entered the tournament with a team badge beside his name, but he left with the biggest cheque.
Homeboyz Mini Tournament Prize Money
The KSh 30,000 prize pool was shared among the top five finishers.
| Position | Player | Team Status | Prize |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | Prorate | Free agent | KSh 12,000 |
| 2nd | Harry Kappa | Free agent | KSh 7,000 |
| 3rd | Sam Jr | Phoenix Esports | KSh 5,000 |
| 4th | Fab Pepe | Inner Circle | KSh 3,500 |
| 5th | Jesse | Phoenix Esports | KSh 2,500 |
Phoenix Esports therefore had two players in the top five, with Sam Jr claiming third place and Jesse finishing fifth.
Prorate and Kappa, meanwhile, showed that players without current team affiliations can still compete at the very top of the Kenyan scene.

A Busy Week Ahead for Kenya’s FC 27 Players
Wednesday’s tournament is only the beginning of a packed few days for Kenyan FC competitors.
Attention now shifts to the Africa FC Showdown, which has a US$5,000 prize pool. Qualifying action is scheduled for Thursday, October 15, with the finals set for Friday, October 16. The competition is part of the wider Africa Blockchain Festival activities at Sarit Expo Centre in Nairobi.

We’ll cover the Showdown separately as more details about the final field and format become available.
After that, players can turn their attention to the Ultimate Controller League Season 3, scheduled for Saturday, October 17, at UON Kenya Science Campus. That tournament moves UCL into the FC 27 era, with KSh 50,000 available and Shaq chasing a third consecutive title.
It is a busy stretch for the local scene, with several major competitions coming in quick succession.
Conclusion
